  • 19:30 - 20:30 Term Management (Yonathon Storm)

Abstract of session Term Management by Yonathon Storm:

Every database has lookup tables--tables with simple lists of important values such as Invoice Status and Payment Type.  These lists form the context for transactional data in operational databases as well as data warehouses; they become dimensions in data marts.  Yonatan Storm is building a collection of database objects for automatically creating the schema you need to handle the various types of terms in your databases, as well as procedures to manage the term values in all the schema objects.  His system has the following features:

  • Can cut your term system development time in half, as it automatically creates most schema and procedural objects needed for term management.
  • Comprehensive system founded on information science, not programming tricks.
  • Can handle the simplest as well as the most complex term use cases/situations without needing refactoring.
  • Has robust term lifespan management and cross-term referencing capabilities; is multi-lingual; allows for  term succession.
  • Will be provided free (in May 2009) to those Israeli organizations who request it at the December 1 meeting.

Yonatan will compare his design to the traditional approach, and answer questions.
